Ontario reports 1,248 people hospitalized with COVID as of Wednesday, including 163 in intensive care.
This is a decrease of 97 for hospitalizations and a decrease of two for intensive care units since the previous day. Last Wednesday there were 1,528 hospitalizations, including 176 in intensive care.
According to the latest hospitalization data, 62 percent were admitted for other reasons but tested positive for COVID-19. 41 percent of patients in intensive care units were admitted for other reasons.

Meanwhile, Ontario also reported 1,692 new lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, though that’s an underestimate of the virus’ actual widespread transmission given its suitability for PCR testing. The total number of cases in the province now stands at 1,290,249.
The province’s death toll rose to 13,099 from the previous day as 16 new virus-related deaths were added. This includes two deaths added to the total after data cleaning
There are 1,259,578 recoveries in total, which is about 97 percent of known cases. The number of cases resolved increased by 2,374 from the previous day.

As for immunizations, 91.3 percent of the population aged 12 and over is fully vaccinated. First dose coverage is 93.1 percent. Third-dose vaccination is 56.8 percent – more than 7.3 million Ontarians have received a booster shot.
For young children aged five to 11 years, the first-dose immunization rate is 56.5 percent, with 35.9 percent being fully vaccinated.
The province administered 27,019 doses in the last day.
The government said 15,599 tests were processed in the past 24 hours. 5,321 tests are currently being examined.
The test positivity rate is 10.5 percent, compared to 11.3 percent reported a week ago.
