The winners of the Scottish Cyber ​​Awards 2022 have been announced, with Gareth Rae taking home the Champion of Champions award tonight.

The awards, hosted live at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Edinburgh, brought together over 250 people to recognize and celebrate exemplary individuals and organizations making a positive impact on Scotland’s cyber security sector.

Commenting on the awards, SBRC Chief Executive Jude McCorry said: “It was fantastic to see all the amazing work being done in Cyber ​​in Scotland and that we have the opportunity to celebrate this once the ‘year.

“Loved to see the internationalization award included this year, we need to see more of it, let’s shout what’s happening in Scotland around the world as we’re doing amazing things!”

Scottish Cyber ​​​​Awards: Meet the winners

The Scottish Cyber ​​​​Awards marked an eventful evening for Gareth Rae, who took out the Champion of Champions award and first prize in the Cyber ​​Educator category.

Speaking to DIGIT, Gareth said: “I’d just like to thank all the young people at Girvan academy and the computer science department who have supported me over the years. We’ve also had great support from Ayrshire Council from day one. We have a huge investment in the academy’s cyber department, which will help many children get into computing and cyber in the future.”

In the Best Cyber ​​Startup category, Abertay cyberQuarter won accolades on the night. The organization was praised for its tireless work to help further develop Scotland’s cyber security ecosystem.

Recognizing outstanding leadership figures in Scotland’s cyber sector, the awards named Scott Hunter as the winner in the Leadership Awards category and recognized Sadiat Jimo as the 2022 Outstanding Woman in Cyber.

Elsewhere on the night, Police Scotland’s Cybercrime Investigations unit won the Outstanding Cyber ​​Team award.

Community recognition

This year’s awards included three new categories, including the cyber community award, the outstanding young person in cyber and an award for contribution to internationalization.

Donna Anderson took first place in the Cyber ​​Community Award category, while Pavlos Papadopoulos was recognized as Scotland’s Most Outstanding Young Person in Cyber.

Meanwhile, Ian Stevenson, managing director of Cyacomb, won the award for contribution to internationalisation.

Ian Stevenson said: “This is wonderful, it’s very much the product of a team effort across the company. Lots of people have worked hard to win us the Internationalization award. But it’s also a product of the community . We are a spin-out of Napier University. It’s wonderful to have the award.”

Eamonn Keane was recognized for his tireless work championing the Scottish cyber community, securing a lifetime achievement award on the night.

He said: “This feels wonderful. But it is recognition of the great collaborative community we have in Scotland. And that is unique.”

Eamonn praised the collaborative nature of the Scottish cyber community in recent years, adding: “This isn’t an award for me, it’s an award for the community. It’s great to see so many young people coming through the industry. We’re a community very diverse, and I think a shining light in the UK in terms of how we deliver cyber resilience.
